I would also be interested in helping out if Patgreen wants some help. I am thinking the archive could be cross-referenced by what I suggested in previous post by the successive Series and then also put into the Packard Information Forum for Post-War and V8 Sections for each applicable year.

Thanks Pat for offering to take this on.

Thanks to 56executive. A truly remarkable find. This will be a huge resource for people engaged in future Packard restoration projects. As always, thanks to Kev for his vision and effort to create and maintain this increasingly important platform for Packard collectors and enthusiasts.

56 Executive, Roscoe,

Thanks for keeping the samples and then sharing them with Packard enthusiast on this site and at the Packard Proving grounds.

I was excited to see the top material for the V8's. I had remnants of a pink top on my green 55.

What is "bow drill"? Where is it used?

I need some help here.

Specifically, many of the materials in the swatches are a mystery to me. For example, where is "jute" used?

In our many publications on this site, is there a catalog of the materials these swatches show? Something that possibly gives a better idea of what the material is and where used?

The key to simple use--as I see it--is for this to be well cataloged so it is accessible from a variety of viewpoints: by year, by model(s), by material, by application and, where applicable, by color.....

If we already have listings for this, it simplifies the task.

Thanx!

55https://www.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/1955_2_Upholstery.pdf and 56https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/article/view.article.php?166 upholstery samples are here. The descriptions or sales propaganda should mention the names of the fabrics. I believe there are also a couple of fact books on site that might have some samples for other years as well.

Jute was normally a padding under the carpet but could be in other places as well--where ever thick padding was needed.

Looking through the cards some of the fabrics listed are "underlayments". Think of them as the bottom, or middle of a stack of fabrics and foam that make up a seat back or bottom for example.

Jute is also the name used for the padding on the back of the carpets.

Roscoe,

Is Bow drill what is used to cover the top pads?

For the V8's they would have to be color coded to match the color that the interior of the top.
