Congratulations! I am also the proud, new owner of a 1930 745 Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton. I practically grew up in this car - my dad was the second owner, having purchased it in 1955, well before I came along.

Talk about lots of small jobs - from the vacuum tank to adding a right side tail light - it's all worth it.

How many of these 745 Phaetons are there?

How frustrating is this?

I had wanted the phaeton delivered last week but in the UK, thats when the new registration number sequence came out so car sales peak. I was struggling to get a covered transporter booked because of this.

I finally found one and booked the car for collection yesterday and delivery to me today.

Because of a mix-up with payment over a car that he was to deliver before mine (damned BMW wouldnt you know)he ran late and called off the collection.

Then he promised to collect and deliver today in one hit (280 miles each way so brave but possible)

Now I wake up this morning to gale force wind and snow on high ground so its cancelled!

Shoot me someone!!!!

From the pic u posted I'm assuming the car is running.
When the weather clears, just drive the Packard 280 miles home from where it is now.

Pack plenty of tools and general supplies and make 2 or 3 day adventure out of it.

Sounds like a great idea but that would cost $400 in fuel alone and its likely to be many weeks before the weather here is good enough for that kind of trip.

Yes, but Al Capone would be so proud of the effort.

I'm a big fan of driving even our earliest Packards, but unless this car has a proven record of recent trouble-free touring or you have assurance that it's truly "road ready", I wouldn't even think of driving it 280 miles for it's first outing. And it's not just that, a drive of 280 miles in a day is more than many even veteran tourers would attempt in a day in that era car - it's not the mechanical capabilities as much as physical and mental effort. Yes, the steering is heavy and will be tiring, but perhaps more important is that you'll require CONSTANT vigilance to traffic and your surroundings and that can be exhausting.

Take the safe way, have it transported, get it home and make sure it's sorted out, and get your familiarity with the car and it's habits on familiar roads and at your own pace first!

Panic over...... it arrived at 9.00am today!!

Much relieved and properly excited.

I spent the day cleaning and polishing and the sun even shone this afternoon

Here she is on my driveway.

A fine-looking Packard!! Congratulations and I wish you MANY happy miles of driving it, and the best of camaraderie that the hobby can offer.

How did your conversations with Jim Pearsall go about it's provenance and prior owners?
