The ID is easy to solve, click on the "Model Info" link on the mail menu (to the left), and then in the Body/Model lookup search box type in the model number. In this case "2392-5" and press Go. The website does the rest of the work for you.

There is one other place you might find a build sheet. Look closely between the gas tank filler neck and the smaller vent tube. Those are subjected to much more weather. So, they are frequently in poor condition.

It's been a bit since I updated anything on here, so here it goes...

There is no Build Sheet, someone already made off with it. Kind of a set back, but I can get by without it...

No compression when checked on Cyl 1, 2, and 3... This has me disheartened... I was hoping to hear it run soon, not having to pull the engine...

On a better note, it cost me $500 buck to have the rad re-cord, and from other ventures, that wasn't so bad...

now, I need to do some reading on these Ultramatic Transmisions... Where to start...

That doesn't necessarily mean to you have to pull the engine. Check the valve lash (if mechanical lifters) and if you don't find valves with zero clearance, then pull the head and check the condition of the gasket and the valve faces and seats. It's uncommon to have bad valve seats give zero compression, more likely to find several valves stuck in the open position, but pull the head first and see what you're up against.

You may not have to take the head off even if valves are stuck. Spray some oil in the spark plug holes. Take the valve cover off the side of the engine and observe the valves while someone slowly turns the engine. If any valves are stuck shoot some oil on them and gently pry down. They should let go with a snap. Turn the engine over a few times to see if they are free. If the valves are really stuck and do not come loose easily you will have to take the head off.

There's an inspection plate on these? Similar to a Model T? So one could see the valves? This I did not know...

Since u ran a compression check i assume that means u can crank the engine with the starter.

TO check for stuck valves:

Remove the spark plugs. Turn engine by hand for EACH cylinder on TDC. Look at distributor rotor to determine TDC for each cylinder.

For EACH cylinder at TDC blow your favorite smoke or compressed air thru the spark plug hole and watch for it to come from the carb.

Also watch or hear it come from exhaust. If exhaust system is still installed on car then u mite need a helper back at the tail pipe to watch/listen.


With each cynlinder on TDc there should be NO smoke nor escaping air.


Record the rusults of smoke or escaping air and report back.

Ther stuck valves can probably be Unstuck by simply removing the tappet cover on the side of the block and working from there. Worse case have to remove the intake/exh. manifold and heat guides with a torch. DO not heat them red. Just enuf to let them snap closed.
