Amazing to me is however, how little owners of 2265's are registered up to now....

Alexander,

No need to wait till it's through your countries registration process, the Packard Owners Registry here isn't dependent on bureaucracy! Do it now and help redress the paucity of 2265's we have registered here. Speaking about bureaucracy, if's there's any bureaucracy associated with the Packard Owners Registry it has to be me!

Good morning everbody

some progress update

I have talked with the responsible person today again and have fed him already yesterday with the availalable info, which I had and which I collected here from the posts.

1) Top speed.
I told him that I will not push this car to it's limits and
we somehow "agreed" more or less on max 100 mph = 160 km/h.

2) Permissable weight
Starting from 3'770 lbs dry weight/shipping weight I have made some assumptions for passengers, fuel, water, luggage etc.
and came up to something like 5'100-5'200 lbs.
That should be a realistic value and he seemed to be happy with that :)

3) Axle weights
I offered him to weigh the car on a proper official device, but he said, he will do some calculations about the weight distribution between front and rear.

4) Noise
The only thing, he was a little "picky" about, was the noise values.
("I know, the car is rather silent, but if the police would stop you one day and enjoy measuring the noise values,
their result should be close to what I have written in the papers")

So, it has to do a little with "protection" obviously :)

I offered him to do an own measurement, but...
he insisted on doing an official measuring procedure :(

Well, if this is all it needs....then I am happy to do it.
Of course this measuring procedure does cost money and this seems to be the "duty",
which I have to pay to get the papers done.

Just as information for our German friends in here:
The complete procedure of creating German car papers for the Packard will sum up to something like 600 ?,
which equals ~ 850 US$ (including noise measuring).

I was aware that there were some costs connected with importing an US-car,
although I didn't think of this amount for the papers.

Well, once done, it should be easier to do it another time.

So -maybe- I need to look for the next Packi to import :) :) :) ? Any proposals ?

Update #02

Surprise, surprise !!!

Just minutes after my last posting I got a telephone call from the technical authority,
that -by chance- an immediate noise measuring would be possible....since one of the specialists was in my area.

So, I jumped in the car and went to the place, where I store my Packard.

I won't tell you details right now, but the process was rather fluent. :) I did a few pass-by's and there we were !

Within 15 minutes we had the necessary values:

standing: 73 dBA
driving: 82 dBA

That was it !

The other requested values will be taken as posted earlier.

It is always good to talk to people personally !!!

So -if I am lucky- I will have the registration paper in my hands still this week, before the responsible person is going on holidays.

Well, some other smaller hick-ups "appeared" still:

- I need to exchange the sealed-beam lights against other ones permitted in Germany

- I need to install a so called "Warnblinkanlage" (don't know, how this is called in English).
This is the device, which makes all four direction lights blink in case of an emergency or similar.

If this is done, I can register the car, get a license plate and then !!!!! finally !!!!! I can put her on the road.

pffffff.............

Alexander, Congratulations!
I have installed in my 1947 Super Clipper Bosch H-4 halogen conversion headlamps. I suspect they would meet German headlamps standards as would those produced by Hella etc. It's an easy conversion. I would connect the lamps through relays to save the light switch.

Congratulations! Your personal representations certainly paid off. Still a little way to go but the major hurdles appear to have been overcome.

I'd hold off on that immigration sponsorship. The fact that all these standards are being applied rectroactively to a 1949 car is asinine.

Congratulations on perservering through the process.
