How do I get to the radiator shutter swivel points to lubricate. My shutters are closed and will not open. Can I get to them without removing the hood ? I have run the thermo arm in and out but no movt of shutters.

Thanks Mal, that was a big help. I can see what is in there and there is more to it than I expected. If I could get the shutters stuck in the open position, I could remove the hood and radiator shell later, if that is what it takes.

Can I get the radiator shell off and gain access to the shutter linkage without removing the at this time hood?

I'm running a one-man show here and that hood looks heavy to a 75 year old that needs to watch his back.

I cannot run the car with the shutters closed.

Is there a way of opening the shutters by hand?

Assuming the shutter linkage and pivots are not frozen, it's usually a simple matter to open the shutters by hand and it's easier still if you disconnect the actuating rod at the thermostat. My shutter thermostat failed once on a tour, I just opened them with my fingers and stuck a piece of roadside debris in there to hold them open until such time as I replaced the Sylphon.

Dear Saffron:

Buy some Kroil (available from Eastwood or online) and soak them thoroughly. Then let the thing sit for a week or two.

Already got the Kroil working several days ago. I think the blockage made be on the linkage and not just the shutter pivots.
That Kroil will climb a beanstalk if you give it time but I want to get to the linkage.

Thanks for the tips.
