My power steering pump on my 55 400 needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Does anyone know of a reputable rebuilder for these, preferably in northern Ill? Anyone have any experience with units that might be available from Kanter or Max? Any help would be appreciated.

Following the many hobby publications, Lares Corp. is the first name that comes to mind as a source for rebuilt steering units. They may (or may not) be the source for the units sold by Max and Kanter. When I bought a rebuilt pump for my 56 I bought from Kanter because I could just drive a couple of miles and pick it up, saving freight and I did note that it was a Lares-rebuilt unit. It's been in service now for a dozen or more years and has been 100% satisfactory.

PS - the reason I went with a rebuilt pump over just the kit is that the gears and gear cavity had excessive wear.

Pulley is wobbling, so maybe the pulley or shaft is bent. I guess it could also be the bearing or worn housing although it isn't real noisy.
