Carl,
There is no special tool required, there is a large nut on the other side of the whole clutch assembly that needs to be undone to allow removal. I have tried to attached photos showing the nut but even though the photos are not oversize they will not attach. I will try sending to you via PM

Out of curiosity what size are your photos and what format -- or were they taken with an iPhone? If size is over 2 meg try resizing to something below 2 even though the limit says 5meg on the restrictions and if from an iPhone, the new default format will not direct post.

I took the photos with an Ipad, (camera is broken) The size is 2.1 MB, JPG. I just succeeded in attaching one photo which might help but the other would have also been useful.
Have to learn how to reduce the size, better ask my grand kids!

To avoid confusing anyone reading this in future, Carl's question was how to remove the clutch spider from the transmission shaft. My answer did not address this question. There is a special tool, see attached extract page from the Special Tools Book. However it requires the clutch spider to have been threaded in production which does not appear to have been done with Carl's car.

I was able to rebuild the same clutch you with new clutches and discs last fall.
It is fairly easy to do once you make a tool to release the springs. I have a few pictures will send a few might help. Attach file: (270.92 KB)
