Probably not. Packard used a decal for serial number and delivery information on the 1938 models. If yours is gone, there is no way you'll ever find out.

G'day Packmerk,
to PackardInfo. Very rare to find a '38 with the decal still extant, I've only seen one. But, I invite you to include your '38 Touring in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo!

Somethimes you might get lucky and pull up the seat cushions and look at the tags on the actual springs and find the numbers, I have only seen it once. It would be a paper tag.

My decal is intact and you can even make most of the numbers. But to make life easier I stamped the VIN into the frame rail.

Packmerk, as already said your chances of recovering the vehicle number or information about the selling dealer are slim to none, emphasis on NONE. The only realistic chance to recover the VN would be records of prior owners and perhaps a long shot with The Packard Club's Roster Keeper for your year and model vehicle. As to the dealer information Packard had thousands of dealers over the years and to my knowledge records from only perhaps a half-dozen have survived and those, in private hands, usually only cover a few years. I have some fragmentary records from 3 or 4 dealers and have no record os your body number.

In Texas, you can go to a specific DMV office and for a modest sum, they will do a title record search on your car. When we lived in Dallas, it was the Carrollton DMV branch office that could do it. Might be worth checking with the local DMV office, but that assumes that the car has spent it's entire life in Florida.....
