A real general hovers around the battlefield. General Emmon's battlefield was Hawaii. Please take note of the towel under the automatic pistol. It makes me believe that the pictures were taken at quiet and peaceful days. But the 1940s haven't been quiet and peaceful in Hawaii.

Mal, thank you. The last link leads to a video showing the submarine Trout. It has an interesting history especially after selling it in 1978 to Iran. What a fatal mistake! Just a few months later the Islamic Revolution turned the things upside down.

Maybe so but I'll bet things would not have been quiet if the upholstery in the generals car was stained. Stain prevention equals the driver staying a sergeant--unless it was Sgt. McIllhenny----Gen Savage to Sgt as he was sewing on stripes again: "McIllhenny, If we keep having these ups and downs, I suggest you put those stripes on with zippers." (12 O'clock High, 1949)

One thing about the Clipper looks funny. Is that a real right hand drive or is the photo reversed. I invite a look at the accelerator and brake area and suspect the car was born differently.

Do rite hand drive vehicles have rite foot accelerator pedal or left foot???? I've had some rite hand drive US postal vehicles in the past but can't remeber.
Also Notice what appears to be a rather shade tree wire hanging from the spot lite control.

Would that be a very early war effort car with the chrome on the dash??? Spot lite is not chrome.

As for the Sgt worried about any rank change i doubt it. He was probably more worried about keeping access to the steaks and ground beef handed to him out the back door of the Gen's quarters instead going back to rations.

Tail lites appear to have somekind of cover over them. They don;t really look like black outs but mite be???

I seem to recall seeing a 34 Mercedes that was rite hand drive.
OR, what year did Germany change from rite hand drive to left hand drive???

Very true but if he were not a sergeant, access to the high living would be gone and he'd be doing physical labor and eating S.O.S.. Another line from the movie after the first time he was busted was when the general asked for his driver. Upon hearing it was the now busted sergeant, Savage replied "Generals rate a sergeant for a driver so better put the stripes back on." I think he only rated a Ford for his staff car though.
