A change occured with the advent of the 22nd series when Packard "rationalized" their engines to all share the same bore; thus 8-cylinder heads interchange on all the monoblock engines with 3-1/2 inch bore, the 288, 327 & 356 and also the later 359 (which basically an overbored 9-main 327) though of course there will be compression ratio changes. Bore centers were different on the 282 & 257 engines and they don't interchange with the later engines.

this site and you guys are awesome. thanks. and Merry Christmas
since we are talking about it. Have you ever heard of any body making an aluminum aftermarket head for the 51-54 straight eights? i saw one once but i dont know if it was hand made. it looked like the heads that Offenhauser used to make for the Flathead fords. My Machinist friend said he could make one out of billet with his computer mill. but it would cost mega bucks.

Edmunds were available back in the day. Just think, for $84.50 you could buy a head and another $67.50 would get you a dual carb manifold. Too bad they're not that cheap today -- if you can find one.
Of course, if you just added a pair of wings to your roof, a performance engine setup might not be needed.
