Does anyone have a picture of a fuel pump heat shield installed?

My car did not come with one when I bought it, and I bought one off of eBay a while back that came off a '54 Caribbean.

But I can quite figure out how it mounts. So I am not sure if I am missing some hardware or something. So if anyone has any pics, then I would appreciate it.

Got no idea if my '41 120 shield is anything like your Clipper shield but for what it's worth here's a pic. It has 2 mounting brackets, the upper one fastens to the front exhaust manifold stud while the lower one affixes to the rear fuel pump mounting bolt. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mal, if the '54 mounts the same way, then I am missing that bracket between the shield and the pump.

I may be able to make one pretty easy. I just want to confirm that this is how every attaches on the later models first.

Kev, they're all the same--just the length of the brackets to fit the various engines.

Thanks, that helps! I think because I am missing that bracket between the fuel pump and the shield is what was causing me the confusion. I will fab up a bracket for some scrap I have laying around.

The shields do vary some in shape and size between the junior and senior cars. Also, for the cars with the vacuum line running along the block there is a notch for it. Not there for the electric wiper models.

The bracket you are missing is attached to the shield with two small screws. With your ability you will have litle trouble fabricating the part you need.

Thanks for the additional into. The shield does have the notch for the vacuum lines. I can't remember if it has the screw holes. I will have to go take a look at it. The shield I have came off of a '54 Carib, so it should be pretty compatable dimmension wise with the '54 327 I have.

The heat shield on my 51 327 only mounts in one place. Under the front manifold bolt. There is not any bracket at the bottom of it that would mount near the fuel pump.

Note: mine does have the same notch for the fuel line you mentioned but no mounting hole at that end.

Bob, you're missing the lower support bracket for the heat shield. It affixes to the rear pump bolt and then has two drilled and tapped holes for machine screws that enter from the rear of the shield. This bracket can be very easily made from a short length of band iron.

I take it the shield then has two small holes drilled through it that the machine screws go through. I'll look a little closer at at. Thanks.


Sure enough, I just looked and it does have at least one hole I can see for a lower mounting screw. Looks like the missing bracket could be a flat piece of steel bent to 90 degrees with one hole for the rear fuel pump bolt to go through and a tapped hole for maybe a 1/4 20 machine screw. What size screw should it be?
