His car, his money, his vision.

From purely physics of the thing, more weight on the front wheels and less horsepower is what every Hawk doesn't need.

I thought the purpose of an engine swap was to improve performance.... Gonna take quite some unsightly hump on the hood to hide all that.

Ross,

Didn't get as far as putting a hump on the bonnet(hood)! Car is now for sale, see this thread on the AACA Website.

Supercharged 327 on Macauley's '52 Phantom.

2nd photo courtesy of Leon Dixon shows the installation on a 359 in a Panther.

It was obviously going to be a bad fit, but that's the thing of Studebaker nightmares.

It was a one-off styling exercise or perhaps an ego-project for Edward Macauley (Chief of Styling) so I doubt any specs were ever published; if they were I've never seen them.

The supercharged 359 in the Panther was reported by Packard to have 275 hp so you could "guesstimate" from there for the 327. Two of the 4 Panthers were supercharged, one with Ultramatic and one standard shift. Leeedy may come along and add to this, he's most knowledgeable on the Panthers.

If the 359 put out 275 hp, then the 327 - maybe about 260 hp? That still more than an unblown Stude 289.
