Thank you JD! And I agree, he did very well in his purchase. I couldn't go, as my wife's family decided to have a reunion last Saturday and I had to go to that instead.

I haven't been able to check the codes yet, but plan to get them later today.

Some of the information that I have found seems to suggest that Caribbeans were only produced in ivory with an upper color of blue, green, red or black. However, I have seen pictures of some nice cars that are red on the lower and white on the upper and white on the lower with torquise on the top. Was this also a color scheme when Caribbeans were produced or is it a change that a later owner would have made?

The 4 two-tone paint schemes were standard and I've never seen an original 54 Carib or a photo of an original that wasn't two-tone. That said, Packard could be accomodating about things like that to important customers so anything might be possible with regard to paint, but checking the paint code on the car should resolve the question fully.

I knew that I saw some photos of a solid-colored 1954 Caribbean somewhere. It took a while, but I found them.

These were published in the Packard Club's January 1998 issue of the "Cormorant News Bulletin". According to the article, the photos were taken either on Sept. 22 or October 9, 1954 in Framingham or Quincy, Mass. The event was a "Fashionata and Motorama" to benefit Archbishop Cushing's Charities. The event was sponsored by local Packard dealers and drew crowds of several thousands.

At least six different '54 Packards are pictured in the article, all of them Seniors. There are two other Caribbeans pictured; both are painted a "normal" two-tone combo. But -- at least ONE solid-colored Caribbean was made. I do not know if it came this way from the factory or was done by a dealer after delivery.

According to this the interiors where all Two-Tone (Antique White and one of four different colors) leather.

The driver's door post and glovebox have both been checked. The only numbers still visible on the post are 5748 2085. I know that this is just the model and body number. The glovebox has been painted and can't be read. Also, the dash and convertible top braces have been painted.

Is there some other way to determine the original color from a build sheet or something of the sort?

The glovebox has a little green paint on the side that looks like it may be original. Is my only option to try to remove the paint from the dash and hope the original paint is still below so the color can be determined?
