If you have the time while you're in Florida, you should check out the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum. No Packards, but an interesting collection of cars including a terrific recreation of the 1770 Cugnot, the world's first self propelled vehicle.

Thanks for that but, unfortunately, time is in short supply while I'm in Florida. With everything timetabled, I won't be able to include the Tampa Bay Automoble Museum in my plans.

First part of the trip is over. Flew from Sydney via Fiji on the 4th of October, leaving @ 1:10pm and arriving @ 1:20pm. Crossing the International Dateline almost allowed me to arrive before I'd departed! Good flight and was able to meet up with Noel, Peter and Ann at Sydney airport before departure, see them next at Hershey.

After arriving at LAX it took a couple hours to claim baggage, clear immigration and pick up a rental car. From there I spent a couple of hours at the Petersen Museum. Only one Packard on display, will post pic's later.

Then the fun started, couldn't get the GPS to switch on after leaving the Museum! Finally gave up and headed in the general direction of the Motel I'd booked. Thought I was getting close so pulled off the freeway and stopped at a gas station. The guy there was very helpful and pointed me in the direction of a Radioshack just up the road. Bought a cheap cell phone and the guy at Radioshack was able to give me great directions which took me straight to the Motel. So far, have found the natives to be very friendly! Then with my new found connection to the world, rang the rental car company who were able to talk this technologically challenged Aussie through the fact I had to hold the button down for 15/20 seconds. By doing that, the GPS now works! So for all of you I have threatened to visit, I'm now definitely coming!

And this makes Hershey just that much better!

Kev,

Noel, Peter and Ann flew directly to Dallas and are experiencing some Texas hospitality before flying on to Hershey, so wont be with me. Although I believe they will be in SoCal later in their trip.

And yes, the more PackardInfo members tomorrow the merrier, see you there!

Ross,

That's fantastic! The guy who's after them said to pick up extra's if I could. You've solved this one in one hit!

Yesterday took in the Nethercutt Collection and Museum. Took lots of pic's, so many I'm having trouble getting them all uploaded. Then today, a highlight of the trip, meeting BigKev! Spent over an hour with Kev seeing his '54 Clipper Deluxe Club Sedan in the metal. From there I travelled to the NHRA Museum at Pomona then headed north to Vista Del Mar where I took in an evening guided tour of the "Hearst Castle". Also still sorting out the pic's for the NHRA Museum. And somehow I've "lost" all the Hearst Castle pic's. Not to worry though there were no Packards among them! A few pic's till I get things sorted out on all the photos.

Hershey question!

Hi guys...

Reasking a simple question regarding Hershey.

Is there a Packard Row like there was years ago? If so where is it? Have not been there for a decade but am off to PA this week. A little short on time so preplanning is necessary.

Also are there a few key vendors, both commercial and private that are hot spots for Packard stuff? Always looking for Packard parts and good deals.

Thanks and off to PA soon.

David

The major Packard vendors and many of the minor ones are all in the same area. Just look west of the Giant Center for either of two ballons, Bill Hirsch and PAC.
