the last few days i have spent taking the suspension apart and pretty much stripping the frame as much as i can. i also drilled out the bolts that broke off and retapped them, luckily i was successful doing that.
i went ahead and used the rust converter from Eastwood that came with the kit as the first step. it wasn't that hard to do, it was just time consuming. i sprayed it on with a water bottle sprayer and then brushed it with just a paint brush. the rust encapsulator that goes on next will smooth things back out, so it says. the bottle sprayer keep the solution away from the air and was more convenient the just dipping the brush. it took the entire solution to do the frame, but i put it on thick and sprayed more into the hard to reach places that i couldn't get with the brush. the underside of the frame was the hardest. it looks purplish in the pictures, but that is what it looks like going on, it will turn black after it dries up really good, so it says, we will see. i can see it turning the rust that was left on the frame to black already. enjoy, Hank Attach file: (35.24 KB) (43.08 KB) (31.97 KB) (31.19 KB) (35.86 KB) (27.27 KB) (28.74 KB) (44.39 KB) (34.86 KB) (29.98 KB) (38.26 KB) (27.14 KB) (32.58 KB) (40.94 KB) (38.47 KB) (35.80 KB) (39.83 KB) (36.42 KB)

Hi Hank,
Looking good! I'd like to do some of that rust converter on my old truck. Is the stuff from Eastwood only available with a kit? I always find the spray cans from Rustoleum and others, and it's just not up to a big job--expensive, too. I'd appreciate some info but no hurry. I'm sure it doesn't work too well below zero!!

Eastwood sells everything as single cans as well as in kits. I did all the work on my front clip with Eastwood products.

and here is what i woke up to the next day.....anyone notice my dilemma now?!
that is some strong stuff that it ate right through those straps! good thing i had on the protective gear last night. also, i don't know why it is all splotchy looking....weird. i test a dry spot with the 2nd stage and it seems to be okay. we will see. later, Hank

2nd stage rust encapsulator. i need a couple of more cans, maybe three. you can see in the pictures i missed inside some of the hard to reach places because i ran out of paint. also, i did not get the underside of the frame yet either. bummer...
well, off to order more stuff. later and enjoy. Hank
