Hi there im new here, i just picked up this 1956 packard clipper deluxe and knew that it did not run. Started checking reasons why and found that the engine is siezed. Oil is full and not milky like a blown head gasket. Removed a valve cover and found metalic sludge, which im guessing that it must of spun a bearing or two. Oil filter doest seem to be plugged either.my question is, are these engines known for oiling issues? Also where can i purchase either a overhaul kit or another used engine for a reasonable price.

G'day 56 clipper deluxe,
Congratulations on your Packard purchase and to PackardInfo where you'll find plenty of friendly and knowledgeable Packard people willing to answer your questions. And a request to you - Could you please include your '56 Clipper Deluxe in the Owner Registry here together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?

Quite. That's why three of us on here developed a high volume oil pump conversion for the Packard V8, it really needs more oil and less air in the oil, two things the stock pump can't do.

Rebuild kits are available from Kanter, but I recommend using different pistons than the ones in their kit.

The Olds oil pump conversion that Craig on here is selling, and if I was building a street Packard V8 I'd at least see what Keith Black can do for you. Anywhere you go they're going to be custom pistons, unless you go with Kanter or Egge, and I don't recommend Egge pistons from what I've heard about their pistons on here and several other sites.

Personally, I'd buy one from JV if I was in your shoes.
