The New South Wales region of the Packard Automobile Club of Australia had their December Christmas run today, Sunday, to Vicary's Winery at Luddenham about 40 miles west of Sydney. Below are a few pic's from the day and a link to all the pic's I took.
picasaweb.google.com/ozstatman/PACAChristmasRun2008# EDIT - Dave (Owen_ Dyneto), only realised when I arrived home I could have garnered some more thief-proof number data. Next time.

And with a '38 Sedan, a '41 Coupe and a rapidly shrinking bank account I can't afford one now. The worst thing about this Coupe, a very nice car, it's now for sale! But a little more than you might want to pay, AU$43,000.00 = US$28,000.00 approx.

I will have pictures in the next few days of a 37 115c rumbleseat coupe that may come to market. I was looking into it as a donor car for a convertible coupe project. I have nearly all the necessary convertible coupe items after collecting them piece by piece for the last 5 years. Anybody seriously interested is welcome to contact me directly at flackmaster@sbcglobal.net I will commit to posting a for sale listing here first for a week or so, then off to ebay it goes....

That is one of my favorite body styles. Too bad distance and cash flow prevents me, or I would be very interested.

Mal,
Out of curiosity, is there any record of how many Packards were sent to AU when new? And were they all RHD?

Dan, I don't believe there are any surviving records which would answer your first question. As to your second, I believe most new Packards would have been shipped here as RHD and delivered from the local dealer or agent in our various states. Most likely from the Packard plant in Canada to take advantage of tax breaks for cars imported from other 'British Commonwealth' countries. Then from Detroit when the Canada plant closed. Mind you there was a thriving business converting cars from LHD to RHD at one stage so that's a possibility for some cars as well, but probably only if they were privately imported. Nowadays road registrations rules have been relaxed and LHD cars can be registered for road use quite easily. Anyone with better knowledge on these issues, please feel free to comment, as I'd like to be enlightened too.

Mal, Out of curiosity, is there any record of how many Packards were sent to AU when new? And were they all RHD? In regards to the exported vehicles I am pretty sure in Beverley Rae Kimes book it shows how many exported cars were made, but in Australia there were 3 dealerships that sold Packards. Ira & Berks in NSW, Kellow-Faulkiner in Victoria and there was another dealership in South Australia but there name escapes me. If we could obtain these records we could determin how many were sold, but these are likely lost to history. Though all of the cars sold in Aus by the dealers were RHD vehicles. Mal, nice pictures of the xmas party & run. Peter Lewer and Russ and myself went back to Springwood and pulled a part off russ's 39 - let the fun begin. I also hit a kangaroo on my way home on Sunday did about $1500+ damage. Note: U.S. members, There's more kangaroos from where that one came from He died quickly anyway & I wasn't in a Packard, only a Jeep
