A rainy day in Northern Germany

Okay friends, this will be a short thread. Drizzle interrupted by periods of heavy rain is what we call North German summer. The car meet with 2,000 cars announced fell through. But a bratwurst and a warming coffee were reason enough to check for intrepid gearheads. Enjoy pics of the iconic Mercedes L 319 with bass face and ultrashort front overhang, the supercharged Avanti with a tail that is faintly reminiscent of a NSU Ro 80 (Wankel) and the French goddess Citroen DS 21, I'm never tired to look at. Last but not least a psychedelic surprise. Take a look at the A/C outlets of the Chevy.

Gerd,

Thanks for taking the time to up periscope.

What's the car three back in the Citroen photo? And is it towing the caravan?

Howard,

Don't the A/C vents on the Chevy make you want to change course regarding the A/C vents on your '47 Custom? Or is it too late for that?

The car with the caravan, I'm thinking a Saab (don't ask me what year).

If not a saab, could it be a jaguar? I think I remember seeing those AC vents (or speaker grill / organ pipes) in a JC whitney catalog years ago.

-It's a rainy day in southern germany also today. I can only polish some chrome packard script in the kitchen....

Mal, Organ pipes are a bit much for a dignified Packard and this stodgy old geezer. It is way past too late. Besides, I don't think they would fit on my shelf -- at least not all of them.

Mal, you ol' eagle eye, the car you talk about is truly something special amidst many 1970/1980s cars. Allow me to start with question #2. Yes, it was towing the small caravan and its owner enjoyed the rainy day dry and warm, well wrapped up with woolen blanket.

BDC, Mike (Tobs), both well conceivable suggestions. But Mike, it makes me smile from ear to ear that a confirmed BMW driver doesn't recognize the BMW 501/502 "Baroque Angel".

Howard,

From one not quite stodgy old geezer, although my wife would disagree, to a stodgy old geezer, fair enough!

Gerd,
I was thinking maybe Bristol, but obviously not so! for the link, a very interesting read.

Gerd, lovely looking Avanti. I just purchased a 63 R1 and awaiting delivery. Always a southern California car and in the same family for the last 40 years. Lots of documents and receipts too. A new adventure.

Nice!! I had a 63 1/2 R2 with square headlights but 63 numbers. Not sure if parting with the Avanti or a 64 Hawk was more painful. Both were most enjoyable cars to drive.

Thanks for the Studebaker story. The car was made in May '63, a late one, but a '63 with round headlights. Sometime in its life it got registered as a '64. I am going to try and convince the Texas office to register it as a '63. I have a copy of the build sheet and have other docs and info to make my case. Probably will be a failed attempt, but I will try.
