1940 Packard 110 project car

My name is Corey and two years ago I was given a Packard the previous owner let it sit outside for around 40 years and neglected it I plan on restoring it to original condition but for a few years I rather just get it so it's drive-able then spend $$$ on bodywork and the interior and all that.

Great that you've started a blog as I, and many others, will enjoy following along as you resurrect your Packard. If I were you I'd take up the Flackmasters "No charge" tranny offer if you need one for your '40 110. There will also be many who are more than willing to share their experience, expertise and advice as you progress, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Corey - an absolute welcome to Packardworld, and of course Packardinfo. Now that you have posted a picture of your project, I feel compelled to ask you to consider the hard truths...in sum, the amount of time and money you will invest in restoring that car will rarely equate to the fulfillment of the image you are currently foreseeing. For example, there is a seemingly very decent 40-110 sedan advertised in the latest Cormorant News Bulletin (are you a member of The Packard Club yet?) for $13,500, ready to go. To bring you car to that level, even doing as much as the necessary work as possible yourself, is a multi-year endeavor, and will most likely exceed $13,500 in actual expenses. So please, ask yourself if you are truly up for this cost and effort? Is this really the mistress you want to be with, consuming all the extra time and $$ you have for the foreseeable future? Is a 40-110 sedan the right car for you? Please understand I am not wanting to diminish your interest in Packards, far from that, but I do have a certain amount of experience being exactly where you are, really, I got into this hobby at about your age, and started with a '36 Coupe in about the condition of your sedan. I understand your drive, but realize it is NOT an easy road. Furthermore, I am indeed from Utica, NY - so I truly appreciate the condition of a car that has been outdoors in leatherstocking country for 40 years.
If it is a Packard project you want, great, let the forum members assist you in your considerations -- there are many better projects we can help you become involved with.

Welcome Corey, glad you have joined us. The Flackmaster offers good advice--be sure that you love the car before you get into it too far. There is a LOT more bang for your buck available. You will put much more than the equivalent of a good 110 into that car. Maybe we can scratch around and come up with something else you would like. Sadly I don't have anything up my sleeve just the moment but these things come up all the time.

I'm thankful for all the advice and tips but yes a 1940 Packard 110 is the project for me I'm into old cars from the late 30's-50's and I prefer to keep cars stock now my main objectives for my Packard in the next few years are to get it drive-able over the summer I'm gonna get a job save up for new brake lines and a new master cylinder then I'm gonna take the rear-fenders off brace the body so It doesn't warp then take the body off the frame for floor repair and trunk repair then I'm gonna sand the frame eliminate the rust then install the new master cylinder and finish doing the brake lines ect and I have a strong feeling I'm gonna need all the advice I can get! and I'm interested in acquiring the tranny that was mentioned earlier!

I to was told many years ago that my 1940-120 wasn't worth the time and effort, I did not listen. Although my car is still in need of being put back together it has been a wonderful ride meeting some of the greatest Packard people. At the time my jewel was a running driving automobile. Your vehicle shows it will need some work, enjoy what you have and be proud of your accomplishments.

I also have a 49 Super that right now needs to be going to a new home if I don't get to it pretty soon.

Greetings Fellow Packardites!

I'm happy that so many of us have great advice for my young Grasshopper Corey!
I am in full agreement with Flackmaster about the costs of restoring a beloved Packard. However, please bear in mind that Corey is still in high school and sums of money like the $13,500 for the nice 110 in the Cormorant are not in his realm of possibility.
I applaud all of our efforts in assisting Corey in bringing his 110 back from the grave. I too agree that you should take up Flackmaster on his transmission offer Corey, especially since he is located not far from you in Utica!
I remember myself back in high school climbing down ravines to harvest useable parts from dumped VWs to keep my first car, a '66 Bug operating. Getting a well paying job at that age was not an easy thing to do!
Glad to see that you've started a blog on your project Corey! Told you that everyone is more than willing to assist and answer your questions.
