It's got a 288 in it. They show up with regularity. You should be able to get one for $500 or less, maybe much less.

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.

A few threads down from your question was someone with one that they apparently want to sell. A little newer but as far as I know it will otherwise interchange.

The 288 was the base engine for seven years of production. It's not ubiquitous but hardly scarce.

Hell, Wat has the basis of one to spare, but it's trapped in a car ATM.

Concerning engine mounts on 22nd/23rd Series Packards, I've a faint memory that "someone" had posted that Packard changed from the front yoke engine mount type to side of engine mounts about that era of Packard. Can anyone confirm or refute that? If true, would be good for the OP to know so he's looking for the right engine to fit his Packard.

If the block is bad and you are keeping the balance of the components, then ANY 48-54 288 or 5 main bearing 327 block will do. Where are you? I can fix you right up here in Maryland.

IIRC, that has to do with the mounts being moved to the sides of the engine for the 1951 model, and after. The 22 and 23 series still used the front mounting yoke gizmo. So any engine block will work in the earlier car

He says he's a '48-'50.
