Bohman Swartz history lesson

Recently a 1941 Packard came in for restoration. It has been in Bc museum for for the last 20 years or so.i am told they only did 3 of these and 1 burned. One, I am told, might be on east coast. B&S did a 10 inch extension on doors and frame. Who were these made for?

Sorry I don't know the answer to the question, but note it's Schwartz, not Swartz. A nice summary of the history of the firm in www.coachbuilt.com. B&S was essentially the successor to Walter M.Murphy Co.

Apologize for the miss spelling above. And thanks for replies.i don't think it's the same as Lyles.this has a 10 inch extension, his seems to be 18. I found this 41 in Packard, the pride by Fenster on page 170. That is the car, still has same license plate

Two different cars. The Lyle Bohman & Schwartz ended up with my friend Bill Snyder in SoCal for many years. Since his passing it is with his son, Steve. This car was at a recent Packard Club National that was held in Northern California. I took lots of photos. This B&S Packard is in mint condition, but has a few differences from the other similar B&S cars.

What history lesson? No, the frame was not stretched. They used Packard's 1904/1907 138" wheelbase frame instead of the nimbler, more rational 127" for such ungainly semi-customs for the look at me crowd. When Walter M. Murphy coachbuilders closed in the Depression depth of 1932, a pair of employees, Chris Bohman and Maurice Schwartz, started doing collision repair for Pasadena auto dealers, then began cobbling outre for Hollywooders, a domestic answer to Figoni et Falaschi, aka "Phony & Flashy" in Paris.
