G'day Bio,
to PackardInfo.

Even though you intend to sell your '56 Caribbean Hardtop Coupe, I invite you to include it for posterities sake, in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry.

Pease advise when the car is sold and the Registry entry can be marked accordingly.

Another valuation website consisting mostly of auction results:

www.classic.com

As has been said here previously- it’s worth what a buyer and a seller say its worth when the title and the money changes hands.

A beautiful Caribbean. Good luck finding the next custodian.

The Caribbean hardtops are indeed fantastic looking cars. The problem with an original car, though, is that the roofs rusted badly. Based on your photos, it appears that your car has suffered that problem. It is not my intention to bash your car, but knowledgable buyers will recognize that. The added value of the low miles and original owner will be greatly offset by the roof problem. At least some of the restorations of these cars entailed cutting the roof off of a parts-car 400 and replacing the whole top.

Good catch! So, we also need more up-close pictures to determine what's going on with the roof

Rusting of the metal under vinyl top coverings became common once the cars got some years on them. The vinyl tops were very popular in the 1960s, and they held up very well in this area for a number of years, but it's now common to find rust issues. Many GM cars of the 60's with stainless steel trim around the rear windows, with or without vinyl tops, are also prone to rust- out where the body metal touches the stainless trim. This seems to affect the rear window area most often.

There has never been a more true statement. The vinyl Packard used at that time apparently didn't stay waterproof long and that along with water getting blown in under the covering where it is cemented at the front allowed the felt pad under the cover to get saturated with water which it held onto quite well. My car roof was rusted out in places across the front and was only attached by a tiny thread at one of the A pillars plus being full of pinholes in other areas.

I own hardtop #1061 which is also an MES (Dover White, Danube Blue, Roman Copper) car with trim 292. Headliner in mine is white and seems to be the original as it looks "old". The previous owner of the car had to have the entire roof replaced with one from a 400 due to the rust problem. He then put a non-original vinyl top on it. This replacement roof is solid.

Pete, I don't see your Caribbean hardtop in the registry. Is it there under a different name?
