Welcome to the group…I have a few years on you (by a lot), but I was new to the group in 2022 and had about zero experience with cars and less than that with Packards.

This group is awesome at helping you with problems and even better at explaining things so you can actually learn what you need.

My best advice is to not be hesitant when it comes to asking questions. Believe me, I’ve asked some that I know left the group thinking…”oh, wow. We need to get back to basics with this guy!”.

But now, I find myself actually able to help others along the way. The process has been as much fun as the car itself.

I'll add on to the welcome! I was 29 when I got my first Packard, and this group was super helpful.

Ross Miller's videos are superb. Another good set of videos, which I think you can find on YouTube, are by Mark Lambert. This first epsisode, where he works on a 1938 Packard, is here:

Edit - apparently you have to have an HBO Max subscription to watch the Mark Lambert videos.

Best of luck! I've done a lot to two 1937s, so feel free to ask any questions. We'll help as best we can!

Just embrace the leaks. They can be a nuisance, but a minor weeping or drip is pretty far down the list of priorities. First up is to go through the brake system and make sure it is updated and in good repair. Everything else can wait.

Looks like the brakes are good, the only issue is the front right one pulls the car to the right on hard/sudden braking. First repair down! We had to replace the battery, looks like a dead cell.

I would go through the brake adjustment procedure in the the video I linked. Pretty easy to do. The front right might be adjusted tighter than the others, causing it to grab more. Adjusting the eccentrics (covered in the video) may also be a good idea, since we don't know how the brakes were adjusted prior to you owning the car.

In addition to Kevin's comments above, a brake shoe can also grab if the lining has gotten contaminated with brake fluid or grease.

If you find a contaminated shoe, you'll have to replace it as no amount cleaning will decontaminate it.
