Just in general conversation, I have read your comments on Woodgraining, and have given some thought to taking a shot at experimenting with it. The last Packard I had was a 1950
Deluxe Super 8, bought from the original owner, and had a flawless beautiful interior, with one exception; That being the driver's side window moulding, where perspiration and friction had removed the beautiful graining.
I also have some questions about color. My Father had a
48 with what I would call Maple graining, I had the 23rd series car with what I would call Mahogany or perhaps Rosewood, and years ago my brother had a 22nd series,short wheelbase Super 8 with a gray, or ash colored dash, and so, I wonder is there anything in the Packard literature anywhere that makes reference to the colors. For all the Packards that I have owned, I'm still kinda dumb about a lot of details........Thanks, SVENSK

i have done a couple wood graining projects, beleive it or not the model a handbook has a whole article on woodgraing in the back of the book
the base color has to be matched in your case, i used a laquer base tan myself. just some old bench paint until i got the desired color, once that was dry i used a rustoleum color a dark brown mixed w a boiled lynseed oil, this can be brushed on. i let that set for an hour.then i used 4 acid brush to make my patern. this then needs to set a few days to dry.


thats how i was taught, probley many other tecniques on it

No, not that I'm aware of, but they did often make reference to the specific real wood the grain was meant to represent, for example, Pearwood, Carpathian Elm Burl, etc. This info is usually in the advertising media.
