The early fifties red pickup looks great! it could have been a conversion used at the factory.

Of course, one obvious conversion would have to be from a two door club coupe for several reasons.
1. A longer front door for easier entry.
2. A split bench seat for allowing access to the rear storage.

Also for more access, you could put a golf club door on either side, making it a "Sportster" pickup for the gentille class.

Heck, find a junked sixties Mercury Breezway and you have a retractable rear window as well!

Its been a long time coming but I finally delivered the 55 Patrician Packup last week. Thought you all might like to see it. This is #6. Glad the owner went single-tone; The senior v-8s look sharp--and very long--in one color, tho you seldom see them that way.

Jack Vines' oil pump conversion is the silver bullet, by the way.

Very nicely done. Looks as if a few years down the road, these pictures will be appearing in a publication and people will be asking about the pickups Packard made and how to tell them apart. Is there 500 lbs of sheet lead under that nice floor or did you tweak the bars a bit.

Ross, nice-looking vehicle, but I also like the photo backdrop - tell me more about it.

That is the Montgomery Tunnel near Christiansburg VA, right where Winston Link shot his famous photo of the Pocahontas steaming out of the tunnel in '57. I have a large poster of that about 5 feet from where I am sitting.

Anyone of our readers with an interest in old trains should google Mr Link and his wonderful photos of the Norfolk and Western railroad.

Amen, brother regarding O. Winston Link. Great place to photograph the red pickup and a very nice looking job by the way.

For anyone who wants to check out O. Winston Link, his book Steam, Steel, and Stars: America's Last Steam Railroadis still available. I saw a show of his work in Rochester, NY several years ago and 16x20" silver gelatin prints were around $1200.

Getting off topic here regarding old photographs from the Library of Congress check out shorpy.com. Find Packards every once in a while.
