I think the clothes pins on the fuel line simply act as an insulator between the fuel line and the frame. On a hot day I can see where the frame may be as hot as the ambient temp, and as such that large metal mass is transferring heat to the fuel line.

Maybe Kev, the one I saw that made me turn and laugh was about a dozen wooden clothes pins on the line between the mechanical pump and the carburetor. Should have taken a picture!

When I was in Idaho in 2007, visited a previous owner of the '41 Coupe I had bought. Took a pic of one of his Packards which was so equipped.

Thanks for the pictures. Maybe they are for heating your lunch, or drying your gloves? Kind of like bumper guards are to hold the dog leash?

The only way I could see clothes pins working on the fuel line as picture above would be if they were made of aluminum. Then at least they would act as some kind of heat sink!
