I've had opportunity to inspected photocopies of some foactory-issued Trade Letters on pricing and euqipment, but nothing older then 1951. I may be able to make an educated guess, with a little help from the parts book.
2252...Custom Eight 6-pass. sedan X......Black (paint) 4728...Serialized Number EMC....Electromatic Clutch OD.....Overdrive 301....Tan Broadcloth (interior) I have no idea about FAHD, RV, or WSW. In later years VM was used for tilt-type, non-glare, rear view mirror and WW for windshield washer equipment.

I believe it will be:
2252 Custom 8 6 pas sedan 4728 Build or sequential number EMC Electromatic Clutch OD Overdrive FAHD Fresh air heater defroster RV Radio-Vacuum Ant WSW White sidewalls 301 Trim Code Tan Broadcloth Not sure about the X unless the car is black which would be paint code X

I concur. That is the correct translation for the codes. The code between the model and build number is definitely the paint code (X=Black).

Although you've been a PackardInfo member for quite some time, it's your first post so, And a request, could you please include your '48 Custom Eight Touring Sedan in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo?

Excellent work!
All items are dead on with the equipment on the car. Thanks so much and I will be glad to register the car. Somewhere, somehow, my father is smiling. When he was a boy he saw the town doctor driving a 1930 Packard. He became a doctor and owned many Packards from the early 1970's until his passing in 1995. Thanks again.
