Well, the world knows better places to wallow in old cars. But the capricious fate brought me to Bulgaria, located at the Black Sea.
![]() Its capital Sofia is surrounded by high mountains. ![]() Roads and traffic mirror the typical situation of a post-communist country, aged cars in poor surrounding. In search of a car museum I came across the National Polytechnical Museum. Don't follow this (probably short) thread, when expecting eycatchers of car-historic interest. sources map: emapsworld image: wikipedia

Gerd,
Good to see you back at the helm. "eyecatchers of car-historic interest" Any Museum featuring a Model A Ford AND a Messerschmitt KR200 certainly catches my eye!

David, I see you are registered for the Packard Euro Meet 2015 in Switzerland. PLEASE do take a good camera and let us see some photos. I've been there many times, just a terrific country for a driving tour and how nice to see the majority of the cars registered are prewar! And a fair number of cars shipped from the US for the event!

Mal (Ozstatman), when following the geometric line that connects Germany with Bulgaria, then it points to your country. So the direction of the trip was good and now I have to extend the step range.
Keith (PackardV8), I've learned Russian in school and later had the doubtful pleasure to drive some strange-looking Soviet vehicles. Therefore I'm more or less familar with the Cyrillic alphabet. Since Bulgarian and Russian are based on the same ground my stammering was even helpful at times. David (Flackmaster), with a probability bordering on certainty I will have to return to Sofia this year. When definite, you'll find a related message in your inbox. Often the forecast lead time is short, unfortunately. Okay boys, before visiting the exhibits (Mal already mentioned two thirds of the car inventory), I invite you for taking a look at the museum building itself. Wikipedia says: "...It has been completely renovated in 2012 at a cost of ... [roughly $350,000]". The value of this investment examplifies the neighboring building.

Due to a confusing speciality of Bulgarian gesticulation I've got permission to take pictures.
<iframe width="300" height="225" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6Gipj1caZUg?rel=0&controls=0&showinfo=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> But after taking a couple of snapshots under the watchful eyes of the museum employee my driver emphatically pointed to a prohibition sign. ![]()

Here's what baffles me.
Look at the picture of the 'pawn broker office' above. There appears to be lettering that resembles the english alphabet. While next to the english alphabet is lettering that looks like cyrllic. Do they use TWO different alphabets over there?? As for the Youtube video: "yes and no" i thot it was Aa and Het or Da and Nyet. I can not understand having two differrent alphabets. And yes, i've already tried to research it on Wikipedia. There is some fundemental concept to all of this that i am missing.
