Clutch pivot, hardface?

Quite a regular

As you can see in the photo, mine is well worn. A local welding shop has agreed to weld over the worn spot and let me grind to shape. I'm worried that the peg may loosen in the bell housing. Any input? Thanks, Bob

I never saw one worn like that! It might be better and easier all around to replace the bell housing with one that doesn't have the wear.

I see you're in Grants Pass! I was just there last week and even spotted a 1953 Cavalier or Patrician in a driveway near where we were staying. That wouldn't be yours, would it? It was two tone green as I recall.

That pivot would have to be held in there some way. Almost looks like a weld at the base of it? Either that or pressed in, but being cast iron not sure that would be good. A good machinist could make a new pivot for you.

I am just going from my observations from when I did mine just shortly ago. The 'U'-shaped lever that pivots on that post was also really worn oval. Would there be any merit in rounding up the hole in the lever and putting a sleeve-type bushing over the worn stub?? If I remember correctly, the stub on my car had a threaded hole in the center with both a felt and metal washer attaching there, which would keep the bushing in place.

weld it....grind it back....done in 10 min and life is good.

did it to my 37 in several places of the linkage, good as new.

Later years have a roller bearing between the relay lever and that pin. If the hole in the lever is already enlarged any chance of enlarging it more to add a bearing? A roller bearing would not require the periodic lubrication that going back to stock or even a sleeve would require.
