It runs I drove it home great shape zero rust garage kept two owners. The tranny slipped when I punched it so I have that to look into. Sitting in the garage and have a few tranny oil spots very small other than that no issues , I'm from Detroit and I remember being young and walking through the Packard plant ruins. I saw it and had to have it, everyone has Chevys I can't remember the last time I saw a Packard.

Nice looking car and the mods seem tastefully done.

The 55 Super would have had the 320 engine. Red is correct for that engine but unless it is the photo, the shade on yours looks a bit dark. Rocker covers are incorrect. It should have the plain or smooth cover with a decal saying Clipper, not the embossed Packard cover.

That style air cleaner was standard on senior cars. There was an optional oil bath cleaner for Clippers but not sure if they used the same style as seniors. Someone else will know on that one. The multi-colors are obviously wrong though.

The style of air cleaner shown in the pic attached to post #15 of this thread is incorrect for a 55 Super. In 55, the dual-inlet, Rochester air cleaner was intended for the 352 engine, as used on Senior Packard and the Clipper Custom models.

The 55 Super came from the factory with one of two styles of single-inlet air cleaners for its 320 mill. In specifying air cleaners for the Deluxe and Super models (chassis 5540), the parts book references P/Ns for cylinder heads, which centers around a mid-year change to cast dome cylinder heads - as described in SC Vol. 29, No.7.

That article makes no mention of air cleaners, but member 56executive kindly provided photos of each of the two styles - each titled with its respective P/N - in this post from a past thread regarding air cleaners.

Here is a photo of my 55 Clipper Super's engine. The Supers originally came with the 320 cu. in. V-8. The valve covers are smooth and painted black with a "Clipper" sticker. The air cleaner is the oil bath type. The engine color is an red-orange.
