What consists of the reinforced front damper? It it the seal area or something to prevent the separating when the vulcanized rubber fails.

More than half the front balance dampers we pull off are cracked down the keyway.

We've designed and manufactured a steel sleeve which is pressed on the hub snout. This pulls the crack back together, prevents it from spreading.

The other benefit is we chose an external diameter compatible with a neoprene lip seal.

thnx, jack vines

G'day CBeschler,
to PackardInfo.

Presume you have a V8 Packard and so invite you to include it in the Packard Owner's Registry here, together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?

Hey folks:

Attached is an oil pressure picture at 2000 rpm fast idle. The gauge is attached because when the motor was first started the dashboard gauge showed nothing. A few quick checks indicated that the oil pump was definitely working. When the car came in the oil Pressure gauge read really high because the previous garage (Packard dealer) had put in some kind of trick sender that reads really high. I guess that is one way to keep the cars from coming back.

Anyway, the oil pressure using an NOS updated pump is right at Packard Spec 50psi (10psi at 400 rpm idle) using 10w-30 oil. I don't think using heavy oil is good for this motor because the oil pump plate is just a flat piece of steel and subject to damage from too much pressure.

The problem here is that the dashboard gauge is defective and useless (probably since 1956). This car is on its third block because the radiator wasn't replaced when they overbored the block 45 years ago and it cracked.

I still think the drain plug location on these motors is terrible and likely the cause of much sludging as was the case with this junkyard block.

So, you are saying that the oil pump conversion worked, but that your problem all these years is that you have been mislead by "high enough" oil pressure indicator on the dash gauge, which really was not?

Jack, i am ready to reinstall the new front seal bought from you. The machinist says the original oil slinger can be used. is that necessary?
Thanks

Theoretically not necessary, but I installed it on my own engine.
