Hi BDC

When it's a recreation by Bayliff which are well known for their "interpretations" of Classic Packards, the only thing remotely genuine Packard is the name they stick on it.

But, these aren't really designed for folks who know and love real Packards. They're targeted toward the folks who want to drive a "classic-styled, gangster-era car" without all the inconvenience or fuss that old cars can generally be. It's all about 'look-at-me' narcissism, the vehicle is just the vehicle to make that happen (no pun intended).

What is it worth? Whatever some fellow with too much money and no taste is willing to pay for it. After all, its simply a new chassis clothed in fiberglass shaped to look like a pre-war era car.....like reproduction costume jewelry.

The saddest thing about these is real money is wasted on them while real Packards languish and are lost to neglect and indifference.

In other words it's just a waste of a perfectly good packard engine and transmission?

Hi BDC

Well, I suppose that way they can claim it's a Packard...but in general its a waste....put the Packard engine and transmission back into a Packard where it belongs. Certainly there is a SBC or some other generic powertrain that would do just fine.....stick Packard decals on it...the people who would be fooled wouldn't know any better anyway.

That indeed is a nice-looking 54 convertible. I must say I'm always caught up when folks use the works "all original" and "restored" in the same breath to describe a car. Perhaps in this case they mean "authentic" and restored though I notice an incorrect air filter and a replacement for the original aluminum cylinder head. Another thing that catches my eye, when you have that much value in a car, why can't the owner afford $25 to get the correct upper radiator hose instead of those horrible universal hoses. Regardless, it would look great in my garage and the asking price seems quite appropriate.

They appear to be more of a field find and not a barn find.
