I buy and sell barn find cars as a hobby I have the chance to buy a mostly complete 38 or 39 Packard super 8 ... The story is the owner died a few years ago and the wife wants to sell the car....I spoke with the owners friend and was told the engine has been rebuilt there is very minor rust the wood is in great shape and most of the car is there.....what would be a good price for this car as I am buying to sell?
Thanks
Brian

Interesting project car! It appears to me to be a 1604-1116 and the club sedans certainly have a bit of a value premium over a touring sedan.

I won't comment on what a reasonable selling price might be, but to give it a deserving, quality restoration will almost certainly cost more than the value of the car when finished even if the initial cost was $0; such a restoration would have to be a matter of desire for the car and not for financial return on investment.

That's why I wanted to post it here first before I buy it to see if there is any interest.....I'm not looking to make a ton of money. I like to see the cars I buy go to people who actually want them.

i agree with O-D 100%. The cost to restore that car is in excess of the final value. The old saying love or money is the distinguishing factor. If someone is in love with this car, it is worth restoring to them. For someone in it for the money, this car ain't it, other than to flip for whatever the market will bear. This particular year has an achilles heel which I will not bore you with other than to say there is probably a reason it has not already been restored. On the other side of the coin, I would be interested in buying it, to either save it for a long term project, or for the drivetrain. I can pick it up September 17th or 18th. No earlier, no later, so there is reasonable time to arrange a deal if you are so inclined. Send me a private message with your contact info if you wish to discuss further.

G'day Brian,
to PackardInfo. What's the chance of including the 38/39 Super 8 Club Sedan in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo?

The only Achillies I can think of would be the I.D. tag. Which may make it difficult to title.

That comment by Flackmaster piqued my curiousity as well so I asked him about it - his response was in a PM so I'll leave it to him to state publicly what he said to me privately, but it was not the fact that the patent plate/vehicle number was decal. In fact it was something I was completely unaware of.
