Hello,
I got a 41 110 club coupe last fall at an auction. It had been on blocks for many years before the owner I got it from rescued it and began driving it. He owned it 34 years and recently went to a nursing home and they auctioned it. I have been having a lot of fun researching it's history and getting it ready for spring. one neat thing is that since it sat for so long it has only 25,000 mile on it. I noticed today though that it has a rounded wire sticking out of the slit on top of the water pump. I'm guessing it is a spring that goes back in somehow. Any answers? Thanks, Paul

No, leave it as it is unless you're going to disassemble the pump for service.

That is the retainer for the bearing. It maintains proper impeller end gap.

Worst part is that it looked like it was mostly out and not doing anything. Any suggestions on how to re install it, or should I remove the water pump and have it serviced?

Have the water pump rebuilt if it's leaking coolant or has other problems like a noisy bearing, otherwise just leave it alone - it's correct with a portion of the wire protruding.
