I'll take being called a boob... I've been called much worse.

I've ordered in a specific coating for the manifolds, it seals rough, not smooth like most powder coat. And the finish looks pretty close to cast. One thing is sure, I won't have to do them again... I went ahead and told them the vent shaft should be black... They already have it done.

The downdraft tube on my 50,000-mile original '40 is black.

Interesting information on the color of filler tubes from the manufacturer being black. That might be why some have found black paint on the front engine motor-mount cradle. I think we have determined that the cradle should be engine color, but they may have come black from the mfc.

By the way, the AACA forum is also very highly monitored to keep it civil, and we host many, many, many different brands and also have a Packard forum. You might want to give it a try as well. (http://forums.aaca.org/).

All are welcome here and are treated equally disrespectfully, as gentlemen we just wait a while.
By the way you're a boob, not a noob. Have a terrible day and may your timing chain jump three notches.

Fred's just upset that I haven't ordered anything yet...

Fred - I did receive a catalog last week. Thank you. I've been pawing over the different braking setups... And I have to figure out what coil/distributor set I have to get the correct replacements and wires very soon... I'll be in touch, no need to threaten timing chain issues...

My 2372 road draft tube is untouched original, combination of grease and black paint.

On the oil fill tubes, sound likes there may be some differences in the Bathtub era where a black one was used. Perhaps some procedure changed on the assemble line and they were installed post engine painting, instead of prior to engine painting,

I still contend 51-54 are painted engine color.

All my 356 engines -- one 1948 and two 1949's -- have Oil fill tubes engine colored and road draft tubes in black. Only one oil fill tube was re-painted at some point (green) to match the engine which was painted green because it's in a 1941 Limo. It was originally gray along with the oil fill tube.

Road draft tube on my very original 56 Executive is black paint. I have no reason to believe it is not factory paint. BTW the engine was a factory green but the BLCOK shows evidence of ivory under the green.

Variations in any factory paint could be due to a variety of production decisions/changes.

The question at hand is about the Oil Fill tubes. The road draft tube is always black unless otherwise noted.
