38 Packard Clock - Need Pics

Greetings,

I am rebuilding the guts of a clock for a 38 Packard and some of the insides are missing.

What I'm hoping for is if somebody has a diagram, or even a picture of the insides of this clock, so less guess work is involved.

I'm hoping I've come to the right place :)

Thanks

G'day Apex86,
to PackardInfo but sorry I can't help with your request.

However, if you have a '38 Packard to go with the clock, I invite you to include it in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo!

I was thinking that, but hoped otherwise. Maybe the owner might do so if you point him in our direction?

I've also had a look in the Literature and Manuals section here but couldn't find anything Clock specific.

I have a 41 Clipper clock, which is very similar. I'll pull the back off tomorrow and shoot some photos.

Guys, there are two points I'd like to share:

First, Is the Packard a jr. or sr? I think the cosmetics are different. I know the 38 juniors have clear discs that serve as the hour and minute hands, each with a nice painted matal ring with a pointer on the outter circumference of the disc. Not sure about the seniors, or whether the guts are interchangable.

Second, I believe Packard began using Borg clocks in 39. I purchased a 38 jr. parts clock thinking it was the same internals as my 39 junior. However, this was not the case. I believe the 38 was a Jaeger, not completely sure.

The Borg clocks share many parts across Packard years as well as with many other car companies. Easy to clean, oil, adjust and to service the electrical contact points.

We would need some more information on the Packard to determine if it is a Junior or Senior.

Unfortunately, the identification plate was a decal instead of a metal plate, this year only. If it is still there and readable it will show the model number. If not, there are other ways to quickly tell.

Is the engine a 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder? If a six, then a Junior; if and eight then does the distributor fasten to the cylinder head or engine block? If it is on the head it is a Senior, if it is on the block it is a Junior.

Here are some photos for a 41 or 42 Clipper. I bought this on ebay hoping it would fit my 39 120. It didn't - this clock has a flat plastic face, whereas the 39 and probably 38 has a curved glass face. Both have the numbers on the back side of the faceplate. The Clipper clock has four bolt holes on the back, space equally. The 39 version has the upper and lower holes closer together. This is a Borg clock. I've cleaned, painted and oiled this clock and will test it tomorrow before I put it up for sale. Don't know if this helps or not.

The last photo shows the speed adjustment for the clock. The time is set using a knob (missing on this one). The knob on the Clipper version is on the 6 mark. The 39 version has the knob on the 12 mark.

The 1938 clock was manufactured by Westclox. Packard did not support repairs to the clock mechanism, which is why detail drawings are not within the Packard literature.

I am also trying to find pic of the 1938 clock, knowing that it is a Westclock certainly will be of some help. Not sure if it is a junior or senior. the part we are trying to find or see, so we can make it is the part that holds the contacts closed until opened by the pull of the electro magnet. Thanks
