The September 1940 Packard Data Books which I have inspected do not include information about their new air conditioner-heater system, advertised as the "Weather-Conditioner."

Is there a supplemental section which may have been added at a later date?

If so, I would be grateful for this new information, scanned, if possible, at 600dpi. This information will be presented in my illustrated history of automotive air conditioning.

are you braced for the discussion between Nash and Pontiac fans about who was first in 1953, and how it's the first "real' air conditioning?

Just what do you mean by "real" air conditioning???

West, to me there is no question about the 18th series Packards introducing automotive air conditioning, but there are some folks that find the movement of the same components under the hood to be a major engineering first. I think it's not on the same level.

Chapter 11 titled "Air Conditioning" in the book "Packard 1940 a pivotal year" by James Hollingsworth might be useful to review.

Chapter 11 of Packard 1940 does not include 1940 Packard Weather-Conditioner information obtained from the 1940 Packard Data Book.

Archiveman, there is a brief description of the air conditioning system used on the 1940 Packards. It has a drawing showing components and plumbing and some photos. You can find it on page 70 of the special edition of Automotive News celebrating Packard's 40th anniversary. A PDF file of that publication is located in the Packard Literature and Manuals section. You can search under 1940 or try this link.

I only learned how to do a hyperlink from another PackardInfo member, who described the process years ago, otherwise I'd be in the dark like you.

When you're creating a post, here's how:

Copy the Web address you wish to link to.

Click on the "Chain" icon, which is right opposite the Message: heading above.

Paste the address into the field.

Click on the "OK" button.

Type in the description you wish to use for the link to the Web address.

Click on the "OK" button.

Then.......carry on!
