i have a new cable for the overdrive but can not figure out hou to secure the actual cable to the actuated handle? There is a cross hole in the actuator handle and I need to know what goes in there to anchor the wire cable to it? Any help would be appreciated.

The cable is merely flattened slightly in the hole to make it spread and not come out. I place a suitable pin punch in the vise facing up. Lay the handle with cable inserted down onto the punch. Take a second pin punch and smack down through the hole and the cable will spread between the two punches. Done. Of course, you need three hands for this.

If the pot metal at the end of the end of the shaft housing is split and will not hold the new cable I have used a 5/16 split shaft collar over the crimp area to close the split and hold the cable.

I have one of these cables in good condition listed on my site below. Not sure if it's 1939 or 1940, though.
