other than the waterpump, what other holes don't line up?
Curious to see comparison to original block? Curious to know if the new block was drilled for oil filter? I suppose it is what it says it is, a replacement '37 block. I recall reading in some service bulletins of "availability' of service replacement blocks for certain applications...maybe that is where the explanation lies...

Service Counselor Vol. 21 No. 12 from August 1947 shows availability of replacement cylinder and piston assemblies for a range of prewar models, including the 120's which could explain the 1946 casting date in the photos.
Original early blocks had the larger diameter tappets and a different water pump.

David I hope to get the old engine back today. I'll take a picture of it when I get it back.

Holes for a filter?
I'm not finding any.

"Holes for a filter? I'm not finding any."
My understanding is that the oil filter canister is mounted on the front of the cylinder head. Look at the front of the head for mounting holes.
