Looking of for help in identifying this car, which is believed to be a Packard. The family said this the owner liked Packards so much that he bought the local dealership. If the car is the right year, then we might have a the matching license plate (pre state issue) in the collection.

I have narrowed it down to a 1908-12 Model 30 touring? But it looks longer than others.

I'm not as knowledgeable on these years as I wish I were, but that's certainly a "48" Touring, not a "30". The additional hood length was to accommodate the two additional cylinders. IIRC the Model 48 (the Six) was introduced in 1911 and the 1st Series 48 ran thru 1913 though I'm not astute enough to know if that's a 1st Series 48 or one of the later series.

That is a great photograph. It gives one a sense of how long the vehicle is, to see the distance between the driver, the dog and the lady with the exotic hat. Is that THREE spares attached to the back?? Doesn't bode well for tire reliability in the day... The picture really 'captures the moment'; it draws one in and commands attention. Chris.

Comparing the photo to those in the Crestline Packard book, it looks to have been a 1914 Series 4-48 victoria touring for seven passengers. Only the 1914 models appear to have had the framed panel on the rear door only.

Here's a better look.

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Thanks all for the comments. 1914 Series 4-48 it is. Sadly that puts it outside the date range for tying it to this license plate. Only 5 known Boise plates exist and this is the lowest number of them.

Chris,

Don't think there are three spares, but only two. Think we're seeing the "other side" and inside of the first spare in the stack.

Yes Mal, once you see it blown up like that, I 'get the picture'. Thanks for clarifying that.
