I just bought a fixer upper 55 patrician and I an new to using forums so I apologize in advance if I post in the wrong places in the coming weeks.

My question is what size/brand tires do you guys run on your 55 patricians? My car currently has very old cracked tubeless 78 15 sears white walls and at full lock they rub. Is rubbing normal? Are there any good deals I should be aware of?

Thanks, Ryan

On my 1953 Cavalier I run these thin white-wall Hankook P724 P235/75R15

Hankook H724 OPTIMO H724 P235/75 R15

Coker tire cross reference says they are equivalent to the old "8.00 15" size

I believe lots of people run Cokers or Diamondbacks, which have the wide whitewall look but are more $$

All the specifications, including the original wheel and tire sizes, are at the end of the service manual in the "Literature" section of the website:

Any idea how I determine if my wheels are the k or L version? And is it normal for the tires to rub at full lock left or right?

No, it's not normal for tires to rub on full turns. Though there could be other reasons, the most likely is oversized tires.

Tyre size can also be found in the "Model Information" section, link to '55 Patrician.

You may want to go to the Diamondback website and look at their Auburn Deluxe line of tires. They have the look of the vintage bias ply tires but are tubeless radials. They are offered in the vintage sizes not the P-radial sizes which are their other lines. I believe they are also offered in whitewalls. They are smooth and round and balance easily. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I feel much more confident in making this big purchase. If any other 55 patrician owners want to tell me what they are running feel free.
