Good morning!

My wife and I recently purchased our first Packard and I wanted to take the time to make a brief introduction.

It is a 1932 Super Deluxe Eight 903 Phaeton. Body Number 511-45. I would consider it an unrestored original. Probably in the 1950's, it received one repaint, a new top, and new seat upholstery. It is currently not running but I hope to have that remedied this Summer.

Overall, my plan is to get it running, adjust the brakes, install new tires, and enjoy the car "as-is" for now. I have lot's of technical questions that I will be asking over the next few months.

Thank you!

Stan

Good Morning and welcome to the tribe! I would consider dropping the oil pan and checking to see if it and the oil pump are clean...often they are dirty and the clogged pump will do damage to the engine. It the pump is dirty, then please consider doing the same with the valve chamber. Often on a start up after a long sleep what ever is in the fuel tank and gas lines needs to be cleaned out prior to using that portion of the fuel system...In the little shop I spend my Fridays in, we always use a separate two gallon tank connected to the carburetor for start ups....Beautiful Packard...Others will have many more suggestions...Ernie in Arizona

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.

Perfect as is. Don't change a single thing but the oil, coolant, grease.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

My goal for the weekend is to clean and organize the garage before I get too heavy into anything. I have started to make a prioritized list of items to purchase and to conduct research on.

I will do my best to search the archives on this site so I don't end up asking redundant questions that have probably been answered dozens of times.

Sounds like a good plan. Don't be fooled by the age and apparent simplicity of older cars; the amount to learn just on your year and model is huge. Don't be surprised if in a couple years you're replying to questions that are directly in your area of expertise saying "I'm not sure, but..." as that's how many of us feel even after some years in this hobby, talking and learning regularly. I'm not sure what my point is, as I'd imagine you're not new to classics if you're buying a car of that age...

Anyway, thanks for posting. Nice car. Don't be afraid to post questions as long as it's not one of the endless debates/discussions that pop up from time to time, like oil weight, radial vs. bias, or paint colors.

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.
