I agree with Eric. If you can get the car for reasonable price (i.e. cheap) at least you will have plenty of rare and valuable spares for when you find your new love. I have a 1947 Custom spare and it has been invaluable for when I need a part.

Too bad you guys are separated by so many miles, or else you could get together and have a real hug fest.

49 Custom 8

The Custom 8 Club Sedans are made of Unobtanium. There are about 12 or 13 survivors and none were art the Centennial in '99. At one point there were actually two in Eastern Packard Club in Connecticut that would attend events together but I think that act has split up.

Lovely cars if you can find one. A good Custom Eight is one of the best kept secrets of American automobile engineering and is worth seeking out

The guy wanted $2K for the Custom 8. I think it's too much. You could probably part it out and make more, but still...a risk.

It is worth probably a couple of hundred $. Then you have the transportation issue which is not cheap either.

If the 356 is in reasonable shape, i.e., not cracked, turns over, etc. then the package is worth more than a couple hundred IMHO. But, as always, the ultimate test is what someone is willing to pay.

Depends on what you want it for. If you want a guaranteed trophy winner at car shows, no way. If you want a "runner" with a cosmetic (not frame off)restoration maybe. If you can do a lot of your own work, maybe. I see surface rust but can not see rustout. Obviously, the more rustout you have, the more it will cost you. The interior looks trashed, but you can add some more stuffing to the seats and put on some seat covers and such, if that will satisfy you. The chrome does not look awful, but it is hard to see in the photos. If you have to rechrome a lot of stuff that will cost you $$. Also depends on whether the engine is free or not. If it is not free, that will cost you $$. Not all restorations have to be frame off, you know. And there is some pleasure in fixing it up. But I do think $2,000 is too high, especially if the engine is frozen.
