My first Packard!

This week I picked up my 1st Packard. It is a 1946 Clipper Six. While I know it is the "bottom of the barrel" for 1946, I am very excited about it! The car was originally a Maroon color has since been sprayed a pastel/light green and then it's current black.

I picked it up on Tuesday of this week and hauled it home. So far I have pulled back the front carpet to reveal soaked and rusty floors. I cleaned them and let them dry out and will probably POR15 them until i get around to welding in replacements. I also managed to get the engine started up. It sounds OK but sure seems "loose" like there might be a broken mount. The exhaust manifold is broken at the flange.

The interior had been redone in the 80's and is holding up pretty well.

I'm attaching a few pictures. As you can see, I'll be trying to locate some missing trim pieces.

I've restored:
55 Ford:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372383

66 VW Camper:http://www.sanborn7.com/VW/DD/

65 VW Samba:http://www.sanborn7.com/bullis/forum/phpBB-3.0.2/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3

60 Porsche 356B:http://www.sanborn7.com/bullis/forum/phpBB-3.0.2/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=140

Looking forward to my 1st Packard resto!

Welcome to the site!

Looks like a great project. And you've certainly got some experience with this sort of thing.

I'm looking forward to watching it progress through the restoration process.

Are you planning on a short time frame like the 55 Ford you did. You seem to work pretty fast on your other projects.

Thanks Keegan. I'm not going to try and rush through this one. I've got some other loose ends get to finished. My goal for now is to get it running/driving so I can move it around. That 55 Ford was the exception to the rule on time-lines!

Don's little intro sounds ominous! But, contrary to popular opinion, that didn't hurt a bit did it?

Thanks for the welcome all! Today I managed to get the Master cylinder apart, cleaned out, re-assembled and working! It was a rusty, dried out mess. Bled all the brakes and the wheels cylinders are holding! I'm running, and braking, soon to be driving. The electric fuel pump as a voltage "raise" box on it to convert the 6 volts to 12 - but that box is cutting in and out and shutting off fuel flow. I'm off to NAPA to find a replacement. Wish me luck!

Great car! Except for the one floor issue, it looks to be a really solid unmolested project! We just don't see them that decent and unrestored in my part of the world!
