Based on the pictures, I'd guess it's a model 2292 Standard Eight Touring Sedan. Is it right hand drive? Getting the engine number off the left side of the engine would help nail down the year as being '48 or '49 assuming it's the original engine.

yes it is right hand drive, and I would be interested in any information about that; did they assemble them here in Australia, or ship them complete, etc.
the engine number, as in post 4, is difficult to read.
I've put up a couple of possibles, but it is not easy to read.
I've used a wire brush to try to clean the numbers up, but without much luck.
once again, I appreciate the replies and the shared enthusiasm.

After the Canadian plant closed in 1939, Packard assembled RHD cars in the Detroit facility thru 1954. Not all models were available in RHD; for example in 1954 only the Clipper DeLuxe, Clipper Special and Clipper Super (but not the Panama) were available in RHD. That doesn't preclude that some conversions may have been done overseas on other models, or cars already imported in LHD.

After the move to Conner Ave the few cars (1955/56) in RHD were converted by Leonard Williams in London, though there may have been a few isolated exceptions to this as well.
