I like the black one too, especially the open air "feature" between the door and the B pillar, haven't seen that before! Do you think it'll start a trend? And the one "bottle opener" on the rear mudguard(fender), don't people try and add these rather than subtract them?

do the lead sled guys steal packard tail lites for their Mercs?
i thought i read that

that chopped Packard looks insanely sinister. ...

i am growing fond of my roofline, tho... because the car is slammed it has some low low pinache to it....

besides, as Pete G just said to me : why dont u throw some cash at the tranny (that doesnt sound right) before you worry about cosmetic surgery.

touche Pete

The 51-54 Packards have an almost chopped look already due to the "High Pockets" design. You see this similar "High Pockets" styling in the newer Chrysler 300's.

Also the 51-54s have a very clean side appearance as the door handles disappear into the belt trim when viewed from the side. Creates an optical illusion or camouflage thats mimics shaved door handles.

Here's someplace else to cut for a very cool look. Check out this Packard that was raced by Jean Trevoux in the Carrera Panamericana in 53 and 54. Although it was custom bodied, it looks mostly like a sectioned 53. No one seems to know what happened to that car so I am trying to make a near copy starting with a 51 four door like yours plus the roof from a 53. Both were nasty parts cars representing a combined purchase price of $250. The sedan had 10 inches taken out of the wheelbase and was sectioned 4 3/4 inches. Fun with sheet metal. The drivetrain is done--I just need to finish the door uppers so it looks like a hardtop and paint the thing.

wowowow thats so kool

i already "shaved" the handles (removed rear door handles)
they were far too clunky for my aesthetic.

but man that carrera panamericana racer looks crazy

u r nuts for doing that!! so kool .

Packards placed in that race thruout the 50's..... i think on this film brief, you can actually see a Packard running...... check it out

Pretty neat Ross. Will it have a B-pillar like the Carrera car? Does the Carrera have a lip around the wheel wells like the stock 51-54s? I can't really tell by the picture.

Kev, the Trevoux car did have a lip around the rear wheel arches. I will try to post some other shots of the original car shortly. The B pillar will be quite slender and from stainless steel, to give a hardtop look. Ross

Ok, now I gotta get in...

Kojack, sledders do frequently use Packard tail lenses. Usually the cathedral style from the later models(56-57?). And usually upside down with a quarter panel extension.

Ross, hot kid hot. That's all I can say. Good clean panels from what I see. Did you section this car? That's true work and great craftsmenship bro.
