Why aren't you considering just replacing the bad gear or gears in the current transmission?

That I have but it could be more convenient to take the 48 tranny and swap with the broken one. I saw two teeth missing on the second gear so I suppose I can replace that one gear.
Anyway thanks for the suggestion.

fogfather - I believe any of the '39-'54 Packard transmissions (excluding the '39 Twelves and Super 8s) will bolt up to your '40's 110 engine. The back end of the transmission is another story. You may need to swap output shafts and tail housings. Also, not sure about this but the rear mounts may be different. If I recall correctly, some had mounts on the sides of the transmissions and others had them on the tail housing. There are parts books here which you can download to do research. I have not had any direct experience in doing this, but most probably there are folks here who have and can offer advice based on their experiences.

One question I'd have being a 110 is if a senior trans would bolt right up. Isn't there an input shaft size difference so possibly a different pilot bearing and clutch plate would also be needed.

Howard - Good point. The senior cars used an 11" clutch and I don't know if the 110 flywheel is drilled to accept the larger unit. Also, for fogfather to consider, is the mix of overdrive and non-overdrive transmissions.

Just want to say I appreciate everyone's comments as well as the transmission in my 40 110 tends to jump out of first gear and I could have asked almost the exact questions and had the chance to pick up a 48 transmission recently.
