In the attached photo from a 1924 1-36 Eight, there are two letters after the six-digit engine serial number. What looks like an F and an A.

Anyone know what they mean?

Thanks --- Scott

Yes, I have a factory service letter that gives the engine suffix codes for the first series Eight and it includes "FA". I'll dig it out in the next few days and advise. If you're in a rush you might see if those Service Letters are available on this site.

There's nothing on this website which appears to cover Packards from the 1920's and earlier.
So yes, I would appreciate if you could dig that information out.

I'm not in a terrible hurry but am going to look at the car this weekend, and so it would be helpful if that FA suffix code meant anything I should know about !

Thanks -- Luke

Dave, would be great to get an answer .. because my engine has an "H" behind the number.

Scott, here's the identification of the "FA" suffix to your motor number. As the engine was in its 1st year of production, no surprise at the number of running changes. And take note of the 2nd paragraph or sentence, your engine also has all the other changes noted by suffixes prior to FA. My thanks to Packard historian Mr. Arthur Balfour for the document.

Carl, looks like your "H" would have been covered by a later Technical Letter which I don't have. At least you know you have all the prior changes thru "G".

Dave, That is very interesting information. The letter mentions the six cylinder cars, do you happen to have that as well.

Yes, page 2 covered the 126 and 133 but I didn't scan and post because the queries were about the Eight. I'll scan and post tomorrow.

EDIT: OK, here's page 2 for the Six.
