Paul Gallagher was nice enough to forward this photo to me. I have posted it in the photo in the Photo Archive under "Factory Interior", but thought I would repost it here for those that might miss it. This is one of the few color photos I have ever seen of the inside of the plant. Great photo!

Oh to be there when that pic was taken! I'd have to grab one of those off the end of the line and make a run for it!

It's a small nit to pick, but that photo is of the 22nd Series cars, not the 23rd Series. Check the fifth car in the line -- it's a 21st Series Clipper, so this photo was taken in 1947 (from July onward).

A similar photo appeared in the 1948 Annual Report (in black-and-white), taken of the same cars - but without any workmen around. Maybe when the lunch whistle blew?

A lot of guys just standing around looking...with overhead like that...no wonder they got in financial trouble! LOL!

That's a great photo and has been used in numerous publications, even on the cover of a national publication of toxicologists and industrial hygienists a few years ago, with the corresponding article on industrial practices and use (or non-use) of personal protective equipment (PPE). Somewhere I still have that issue and will try to locate it.

Found it, don't know the date of the photo but the first 22nd series convertibles were built as early as April, 1947.

Probably posed by a professional photographer with the line stopped. One documenting the factory with no people, the other with workers added for human interest.

None of the workers seem to be installing parts or doing anything but wiping off imaginary dust or generally farting around.

The first car has its headlights on, something else photographers do to brighten up a picture and add interest.

Another tipoff, where was the photographer standing? Unless he was hanging by his heels from the rafters they must have set up a scaffold or ladder of some kind right in front of the first car, further proof that the line was not moving.

I assumed the line was stopped because you can see motion blur on a number of workers but not on the cars.
