I can say that is the first time I have ever seen any fabric splashers on the 51-54s.

What about some heavy canvas from an artist supply? Might be able to dye it the proper color.

Is it something like heavy, multiple-ply rubberized fabric? Materials like that are still available, you might try McMaster-Carr or MSC (in Harrisburg).

Big Kev: I have tried to ID them in the Parts Book. It's difficult.
HH56: I visited a local canvas store yesterday. They have awning canvas and naughahide type materials. This canvas is like the stuff we used on trucks and trailers in the military. Then it is coated on the underside. Owen: Steele Rubber has a reinforced rubberized fabric that is 1/8". But it is black rubber sheet. I want it to be as authenic as possible.

How about something like this. The OD green might work & should be semi waterproof. If it works, a small tarp should provide plenty of material.
tarps.com/canvas.htm tarpsplus.com/canvastarps.html Does the coating look like it is applied-like a lacquer or shellac type material or is it more of a rubber. Krylon offers a variety of clear coatings that might do the laquer type & possibly one of the spray on upholstery waterproofing treatments might work. krylon.com/products/categories/artist_clear_coatings/

Are you sure that it is original? And not added on later by an owner?
I just have never seen any mention anywhere to fabric splashers on 1951+ cars.

My memory fails but vaguely remember some kind of flexible cover. If you compare Dale's second pict of the L fender with the illustration from parts book, it looks to me like that is fabric there and has folds on the edges.

Are you sure that it is original? And not added on later by an owner? Kev, My 51 300 has the same thing. It covers the area around the upper "A" frames. If I remember right you have to lift it up to get to the upper grease fitting. Some kind of heavy rubberized cloth.
